Terms of Service
1. Introduction
Welcome to Hook Cookbook — a cozy, personal tool for crocheters.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") explain the rules for using the app. By using Hook Cookbook, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. What Hook Cookbook Is
Hook Cookbook is a React progressive web app that helps crocheters turn patterns into clear, trackable recipes using AI.
It is:
- A personal tool, not a social network
- A pattern companion, not a pattern host
- A tracker, not a marketplace
Most of your crochet content stays on your device or your Google Drive.
3. Who Can Use Hook Cookbook
Hook Cookbook is open to all ages. However:
- We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA)
- If you are under the relevant age threshold, you must have permission from a parent or guardian
By using the app, you confirm you have the right to do so.
4. Your Account
To access certain features, you'll need an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate information when registering
- Keep your login credentials secure
- Not share your account with others
You can delete your account at any time via Settings.
5. Plans, Pricing & Payments
Free Plan
- 2 pattern uploads total
- No monthly replenishment
- Patterns stored on your device only (no cloud backup)
Cozy Nook — $3.99/month or $44/year
- 5 pattern uploads per month
- Cloud backup via your Google Drive
- Unlimited projects
- Cancel anytime — access continues until the end of your billing period
- Annual plan saves one month compared to monthly billing
Add-Ons (Cozy Nook subscribers only)
- Extra text pattern upload: $0.99 each
- Extra video pattern upload: $1.99 each (coming soon — video processing is not yet available)
- Add-ons never expire and are not touched by monthly resets
- Add-ons are non-refundable once delivered
Payment Failures
If a payment fails:
- Paid features (cloud backup, monthly upload quota) pause immediately
- Your existing patterns always remain accessible
Payments are processed by Stripe.
6. Refund Policy
We do not offer refunds except in one case:
Accidental charge: Email hello@hook-cookbook.com within 24 hours of the charge and we'll review it manually.
Add-on purchases are non-refundable once delivered.
7. User Content & Intellectual Property
You own your patterns. Always.
Hook Cookbook claims no rights over patterns, notes, or any content you bring into the app.
Your responsibilities
By using the app, you confirm that:
- You have the right to use any patterns you submit for processing
- You will not submit copyrighted patterns you don't have permission to use
How patterns are handled
- Patterns are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for AI processing
- Hook Cookbook does not store your pattern content on our servers
- Processed results are saved to your device or your Google Drive (if enabled)
Hook Cookbook is a tool. We are not a content host.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Abuse or deliberately overload the AI processing system
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or access the system in unauthorised ways
- Upload illegal content of any kind
- Use the app for commercial pattern distribution
- Interfere with the app's operation or security
Hook Cookbook is for personal use only.
9. AI Processing Disclaimer
AI pattern processing is a best-effort service.
We do not guarantee:
- Accuracy or completeness of processed output
- Correct stitch counts or row counts
- Correct interpretation of any specific pattern
You should always review processed output before using it for a project.
Processing issues do not entitle you to a refund. If something looks wrong, use the "Something's Off" flow inside the app to let us know.
10. Google Drive Integration
If you connect cloud backup:
- Hook Cookbook accesses only the
appDataFolder— a hidden, app-only folder in your Google Drive - We cannot see or access any other files in your Drive
- You can revoke this access at any time via your Google account settings
You are responsible for managing your own Google Drive storage.
11. Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Account → Delete Account.
When you do:
- Your server-side data is deleted (auth record, usage data, subscription record)
- Data stored on your device or in your Google Drive remains under your control
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You violate these Terms
- You misuse or attempt to abuse the app or its systems
- Your actions harm the service or other users
We may also update, change, or remove features at any time.
12. Service Availability
Hook Cookbook is provided "as is".
We do not guarantee:
- Uninterrupted access
- Error-free operation
- That AI processing will produce correct results
- That cloud backup will always be available
We're a small, independent app. We work hard to keep things running, but we can't promise perfection.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- N&G LLC is not liable for data loss, processing errors, service interruptions, or any damages resulting from use of the app
- You use Hook Cookbook at your own risk
- Your patterns and Drive data are your responsibility
14. Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles.
If you have a concern or dispute, we ask that you contact us first at hello@hook-cookbook.com so we can try to resolve it informally. We'll respond within 10 business days.
If we can't resolve it informally, any legal action must be brought in the courts of New Mexico, USA. By using the app, you consent to this jurisdiction.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
- Material changes will be emailed to registered users and/or shown in the app
- Minor updates will be posted silently on this page
The "Effective date" at the top always reflects the latest version.
